It’s been about 8 months since Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 were released in Japan. So, I think it’s time to start cogitating about the next generation of Pokemon (aka 6th GEN). I’m going to discuss some of the current chatter and rumors that are floating around and also some of my own speculations. I believe that 2013 is the year for 6th GEN (or possibly a 3rd GEN Remake).
Types
Here’s a chart made by Saiph-Charon that displays all of the unused type combos up until GEN V. This list doesn’t include PokeStudios bosses. I don’t think they should be counted anyway though, because you can’t get them as Pokemon.
Fully Visible: No Pokemon with that current typing.
Somewhat Visible: There are Pokemon with the reverse combination.
Barely Visible: At least one Pokemon with that type combo.
I’m personally rooting for some Mega Bug Legendaries. I know we got Genesect in 5th GEN, but he’s just a lab experiment. I think it would be quite nice to see some Bug/Dragon types. I think Flygon is the closest thing we have to that right now. And don’t get me wrong, he’s a nice Pokemon, but I’m looking for something a little more creepy-crawly and ferocious.

3D Models
I’m going to assume that the next Pokemon games are going to be 3DS games and use the full resources of the 3DS console. If that’s the case, then I think we’re going to see quite an upgrade in the visual department (Upgrade as in use of power. Personally, I like the 2D sprites). With the release of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity, I think it’s perfectly plausible to assume that the main entry games will be of similar visuals or better. This is one common speculation that I definitely agree with.
This means that we’ll have fully rendered 3D battles and Dex entries. It’s possible that the Pokemon will look as good as the 3D models from PokeDex 3D Pro!
New Evolution Forms
Which Pokemon to get new Evolution forms is always a popular speculation. Usually, these thoughts are limited to Non-Legendary Pokemon that don’t already have 3 forms. Another candidate for possible new forms is Eevee. There’s still quite a lot of unused types and we’d always like to see new Eevee Evolution forms.

A lot of people seem to think that Sableye will be getting a new evolution form. Sableye does look pretty cool, so I think he deserves a couple evolutions or so. Here's some fake evolutions by scythemantis:
Personally, I think it would be awesome if they broke free from the standard 3 form evolutions. I know there are Pokemon that have evolutionary branches and what-have-you. But, I’d like to see a true 4th form. That would certainly spice it up quite a bit. Just imagine what the 4th forms of Venusaur, Blastoise and Charizard would look like!
New Types for the Starters
This one is pretty basic. We’ve been given the standard formula for the starters in every single GEN so far (Grass, Fire and Water). Why not mix it up a little bit and give us 3 completely different types to start off with. The only problem with this is that they’d have to pick 3 types work like the traditional rock-paper-scissors types. One possible combination for new starter types could be Psychic, Dark, and Fighting. Can you think of any other possible starter type combinations that would work?
Chair Pokemon
I’ve seen this so often that it has to be a meme by now. The infamous Chair Pokemon from 6th Generation. If Game Freak actually makes a chair Pokemon, my head is going to implode from a combination of ridiculous awesomeness all rolled up into one insanely stupid but amazing idea for a Pokemon. If this happens then I think the first stage will be an Ottoman followed by the Chair which leads up to a Throne Pokemon. Then we’ll have another Pokemon King! I'd sit on that. 
Final Tidbits
We’ll obviously be getting a new region. I also assume that the games will have more online features (which could be a good thing or a bad thing. Possibly bad for the Pokemon Editing community). And I think we’ll see another 100 or so new Pokemon. Please feel free to give your own speculations. Now lets begin the conversation!
